Member of Parliament Amer Abdul Jabbar called on the government today, Thursday, to take action to recover the debts and financial dues owed by mobile phone companies, in order to support financial liquidity and address the salary payment crisis.
Abdul Jabbar stated, in a statement followed by the News Video Agency, that the current government is facing significant financial challenges due to the accumulation of debts and dues resulting from the policies of previous governments, pointing out the need to seek available financial sources to enhance state revenues, foremost among them the funds owed by telecommunications companies.
He added that mobile phone companies are making substantial profits from the Iraqi market, despite what he described as poor service levels and high communication fees and recharge card prices, at a time when there are still significant financial debts owed by them to the public treasury.
Abdul Jabbar confirmed that the government has pressure tools to compel these companies to settle their dues, by threatening not to renew their licenses and contracts, and opening the door for new global telecommunications companies to replace the failing companies.
He emphasized that taking serious steps in this direction would push mobile phone companies to settle their financial obligations and pay their debts owed to the state, which would contribute to strengthening financial resources and alleviating pressure on the public budget.
