The medical committee and the safety committee at the Asian Games - Nagoya, decided to exclude the Iraqi young boxer Abbas Qasim Hamdan, weighing 55 kg, from the Round of 16 match scheduled today, Saturday, against South Korean Shin Jaeyoung at the Nishio Arena.
The decision came after the medical committee consulted with the technical committee and the head of the Iraqi delegation, following an injury the player sustained in his previous match against the Sri Lankan boxer, which he won with a score of 5-0.
Abbas Qasim sustained an injury to his eyelid under the brow from a clash with his Sri Lankan opponent's head, which required surgical intervention with three stitches after the match. The medical committee felt that his participation today could exacerbate the injury and negatively impact his future, as he is still at the beginning of his career.
On the other hand, his brother, boxer Ali Qasim Hamdan, weighing 70 kg, will compete on Monday in a decisive match against the world number one Kazakh boxer, in a crucial bout, as the winner will qualify directly for the semifinals and secure a colored medal.
