The Ministry of Oil revealed today, Monday, the reasons for the halt in Iraqi crude oil exports to Jordan, attributing it to technical reasons related to the specifications of crude oil and its suitability for Jordanian refineries.
The ministry's spokesperson, Salim Al-Rakabi, stated in a statement followed by the News Video Agency, that Jordanian refineries were previously supplied with Kirkuk light crude oil, which suits their operational nature, but quantities of this type are currently unavailable.
Al-Rakabi added that Iraq offered the Jordanian side to supply it with Basra medium crude oil as a substitute for Kirkuk light crude oil, noting that the Jordanian side informed Iraq that it is unable to operate its refineries using this type of crude oil.
The halt in supplies comes amid the differing technical characteristics between types of crude oil, which requires the specifications of the supplied oil to match the operational capabilities of the refineries, to ensure the efficiency of refining operations and the continuity of production.
