The Iraqi Al-Zawraa Club began its journey in the Gulf Clubs Champions League for the 2026-2027 season on Tuesday evening, drawing 1-1 against its host Qatar SC in the first round of the group stage.

The match took place at the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium in the Qatari capital, Doha, at 5:45 PM Baghdad time and ended with a score of 1-1.

The first half ended in a draw with one goal for each team, with Al-Zawraa scoring first through player Mohamed Sharif in the 21st minute, and Qatar equalizing just before the end of the first half in the 45+4 minute through player Johan Bouley.

The score remained unchanged in the second half until the referee blew the whistle to announce the end of the match, sharing the points.

Al-Zawraa is in Group B along with Qatar SC, Al-Nasr from the UAE, and Al-Riffa from Bahrain, while Erbil competes in Group C alongside Al-Ittihad from Saudi Arabia, Ajman from the UAE, and Kazma from Kuwait.

The top team and the runner-up from each group qualify for the quarter-finals, along with the two best third-placed teams. The quarter-finals are scheduled to take place between March 2 and 17, 2027, while the semi-finals and final will occur from April 23 to 30 of the same year.
