The Journalists' Syndicate organizes a workshop to enhance legal protection and raise awareness among media professionals about regulations
The Iraqi Journalists' Syndicate organized a specialized workshop today, Saturday, titled “Media Legislation as a Safe Path for the Legal Protection of Journalists,” aimed at developing the skills of journalists and media professionals and enhancing their knowledge of the laws and regulations governing journalistic work.
Media legislation specialist Raheem Al-Shammari stated, in a comment followed by the News Video Agency, that the workshop is part of a series of training activities approved by the Syndicate Council for 2026, in response to the increasing lawsuits and legal actions related to journalists who are members of the Syndicate's general assembly.
Al-Shammari explained that the workshop aims to review the laws, judicial decisions, and principles of the Federal Court of Cassation, in addition to the directives and orders of the Supreme Judicial Council related to publishing and media issues, contributing to informing journalists about safe legal avenues for practicing their work.
He added that the syndicate aims, through these periodic workshops, to enhance legal awareness among journalists and develop their professional skills, helping them avoid falling into legal accountability while maintaining their role in conveying information and educating society.
He noted that the importance of these workshops is magnified in light of the rapid technological advancements and the spread of social media platforms and electronic applications, which requires precise knowledge of the legal and professional regulations for media work.
