The Chinese company "Unitree" unveils its new robot "Superman," capable of jumping up to two meters and achieving a speed of 12.66 meters per second, coinciding with the company's preparations to be listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange after an initial public offering that saw demand exceeding the supply by more than 8,000 times.
Unitree, which specializes in manufacturing humanoid robots, announced its new high-speed robot "Superman" just days before the start of trading its shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, a move that reflects the intense competition in China’s robotics and artificial intelligence sectors.
The new robot demonstrated remarkable mobility capabilities, managing to execute a vertical jump from a standing position to a height of two meters, with a speed reaching 12.66 meters per second, equivalent to about 45.6 kilometers per hour.
Unitree stated that the development of Superman took just over three months, indicating the speed at which the company is working to develop new generations of humanoid robots.
Unitree is set to begin trading in the STAR Market of the Shanghai Stock Exchange on August 19 after raising approximately 6.1 billion yuan, or about 905 million dollars, from its initial public offering.
The offering witnessed exceptional interest from individual investors, with subscription requests exceeding the available shares by more than 8,000 times, a level that reflects the significant enthusiasm surrounding the humanoid robotics sector in China.
The offering price was set at 150.80 yuan per share, or 22.37 dollars, giving the company a valuation of nearly 61 billion yuan, or 9 billion dollars.
Unitree is one of the leading Chinese companies in the field of humanoid robotics, and data indicates that the company has delivered around 18,000 bipedal robots of various models by July 2026.
Its products are not limited to humanoid robots, as it is also known for developing quadrupedal robots, while the robots capable of movement and interaction with the environment have become a central focus of its future strategy.
Unitree's ambitions were recently bolstered by a partnership with the Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek, which invested approximately 140.8 million yuan, or 20.8 million dollars, in the offering.
The significant interest in Unitree's stock reflects the high expectations regarding the future of humanoid robotics in China.
However, some analysts caution that the company's high valuation comes with risks, especially as the widespread commercial use of these robots is still in its early stages.
Nonetheless, Unitree's offering represents a significant milestone for the Chinese industry, being one of the last companies specializing in humanoid robotics that transition from development and technical demonstrations to public financial markets.
