Researchers studying "cockroach milk" received the "Ig Nobel" Prize as part of an annual scientific award ceremony celebrating unusual and innovative research contributions.
According to a report from the "Associated Press," which was reviewed by the "News Video Agency," the research was honored during the "Ig Nobel" awards ceremony held yesterday, Thursday, at a conference center in Zurich, Switzerland, where 10 research teams were recognized for scientific works described as strange and amusing.
The awards are organized by the digital magazine "Annals of Improbable Research," and the ceremony has moved to Europe after being held in the United States for 35 years due to concerns about participants' ability to obtain travel visas.
Among the honored researchers are Matilda Brindle and Stuart West from the University of Oxford, and Katherine F. Talbot from the Florida Institute of Technology, along with the late Dr. Tokuji Ono, who conducted research on nose-picking science.
The awarded research also included a team that buried a thousand pairs of underwear in more than 25 countries to study how organisms in the soil contribute to their decomposition.
As per the tradition of the "Ig Nobel" ceremony, the event commenced with attendees throwing paper airplanes toward the stage.
The organizers announced that the award ceremonies will move in the future between Zurich and other European countries, with the Belgian city of Antwerp set to host the 2027 ceremony.
Previous "Ig Nobel" ceremonies were held at Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Boston University, but there are no immediate plans to bring the ceremony back to the United States.
Mark Abrahams, the presenter of the ceremony and editor of the magazine, mentioned in an email to the Associated Press last March that visiting the United States had become unsafe for guests over the past year.
It is worth noting that the "Ig Nobel" Prizes are not related to the Nobel Prizes, which are set to be announced at the beginning of October.
