The General Authority of Customs confirmed today, Saturday, that the exemption of electric and hybrid cars from fees is no longer valid.
The authority stated in a statement received by "Video News Agency" that "the tables circulating through some media outlets and social media, which included the exemption of electric and hybrid cars from customs duties, are based on a previous decision issued by the Cabinet, which has been canceled and is no longer in effect."
It added that "the collection of customs duties and the application of exemptions on electric and hybrid cars are subject solely to the current laws, decisions, and instructions, and that the circulating tables based on canceled decisions do not constitute a legal basis for approving any customs exemption."
The authority called on "all traders, importers, and media outlets to exercise caution in circulating information, not to rely on any tables or exemption rates that are not valid, and to refer to official sources and decisions issued by the relevant authorities, to avoid causing any confusion among citizens or disruption in commercial and customs procedures."
