The American embassy in Jordan issued a security warning urging its citizens to be cautious, following reports of an attack targeting an Orthodox Christian church in the village of Hamud in the Karak Governorate, amidst heightened security measures at various locations, including shopping centers and diplomatic missions in the capital, Amman.
The embassy confirmed in a statement received by the Video News Agency that it is closely monitoring the security developments, urging its nationals to follow the instructions issued by the Jordanian authorities, noting that it will continue to assess the situation and provide updates as necessary.
In this context, reports indicated that seven people were killed and 27 others were injured due to gunfire during a funeral, while Jordanian authorities continue their search for the attackers and investigation into the circumstances of the incident, without confirming any links to known groups.
For his part, Jordanian Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan described the incident as a result of "terrorist thinking and blind extremism," affirming the refusal to allow the spread of this approach in society. The Jordanian monarch, King Abdullah II, also visited the Karak Governorate, vowing to hold those involved accountable.
